STANFEST 2012
Canso NS

The 2012 Stan Rogers Folk Festival marked the 16th anniversary of this event. Except for a bad thunder storm on Thursday night, this has been the best year for weather since we have been going.

There was another great lineup of entertainers again this year. Some of the featured artists included
Bruce Guthro, Dave Gunning, JP Cormier, Ron Hynes, Jim Cuddy, Juice Newton, Matt Anderson, Stephen Fearing, Cassie and Maggie, Evans and Doherty, Terry Kelly, The Adams Brothers, The Secrets, Ten Strings and a Goatskin, Ken Mellons and Michelle Wright along with many, many more. Genevieve was a big fan of Matt Anderson while my favourites were The Adams Brothers, The Secrets and Ten Strings and a Goat Skin

We tented with Mary, Dave, Marsha and Richard. Our next door neighbours were a lot of fun and we had a bit of an impromptu ceilidh when we discovered that Danielle was a talented piper.

We are looking forward to next year’s event.

The Acoustic Camp Ground. We stayed on the left hand side of the  facility.

The parking area. We got to the site in plenty of time to get a good parking spot next to our tent.

Enjoying a few moments of downtime.

Is this Genevieve in the crowd?

Ten Strings and a Goatskin, a great band from PEI.

Our next door neighbours were a great bunch. Danielle is a world class piper who will be competing in the the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow Scotland this August. She gave us an impromptu presentation and was soon joined by three bodhran drum players.  With the arrival of a dancer we had a ceilidh underway. Stanfest dosen't get any better than this. Best of luck  Danielle, we will be routing for you to win!

Genevieve is either on the phone or playing her guitar.

Front:  Danielle, Marsha, Genevieve and Bob.

The ultimate authority on Stanfesting.

Packing up. Can't wait until next year.

STRIPER FISHING
Stewiacke River

I tried my hand at Striper Fishing on the Stewiacke River and this season finally had great luck. During previous years I have fished the Annapolis River without success. Jon and I hit gold this year with a extraordinary catch. I got 12 of which the largest was 20 pounds. Jon landed 11 fish with one over 25 pounds.

Shortly after this outing Bill Foster, Micheal Fowler and I also had another great day on the river; however, Bill was the only angler to land a fish. Jon had several trips to the River with his friends and was successful on most of these outings. Unfortunately, all the fish were caught during a catch and release period and we could not keep any for a feed. Include are photos taken by Jon and Micheal.

A very tranquil evening. I really enjoy fishing during this time of the day.
Another great catch.

I estimate that this one was over 20 pounds.

A 25 pounder.

Another of the 12 fish I landed on the trip.
