Camp Update #6

We got hit by lighting !!!!

Bad weather has continued to hamper construction and progress is slow. This Monday (November 13/06) the contractor was able to backfill the foundation and get a start the second story walls. The weather outlook for the rest of the week does not look good.

On Monday evening we had a bad electrical storm. Lighting struck the camp in an area less than 3 feet from where Genevieve and I were sitting. There was a flash followed a loud bang from the outside and a loud crack and brilliant flash inside the camp near the window where the TV was located. I believe that it hit the old TV antennae and followed the wire into the room. After recovering from the initial shock we tested various electronic items in the area of the hit. The satellite system did not work. After contacting Star Choice to have them carry out a few tests, we figured that it was toast. They recommend that the unit be unplugged to be on the safe side. Before leaving the next day I gave it a quick test and it worked. Guess it had the hell scared out of it as well as us.

The backfilling has been completed (November 13/06).

We had a visit from Gwen Boyd

Genevieve and Gwen attend a retirement party for two of their colleagues from the Department of Public Health on November 8th. The weather was bad so Gwen decided to stay for the night.
